The most unique finishing class you’ll take - turn your fully stitched needlepoint into a pillow! This small group class with professional finisher Julia Navik will teach you how to sew your own pillow, no need to send your pieces off anymore!

Saturday, November 21st, 2:30-7:30 PM

In this class, we will take your stitched and blocked canvas to a finished pillow with a mitered inset and self-welt. Julia is happy to answer questions about fabric choices by emailing her at fairlywell@gmail.com prior to the class.

If you are new to sewing, please familiarize yourself with your machine and manual. Sewing and finishing a basic beanbag is the minimum level of skill needed. If you aren’t able to thread and set up your machine before class, you are welcome to sit in but we will not be able to instruct or troubleshoot individual machines.

*Ruffle or Gusset Pillow add-on: both of these finishes are equivalent to a second pillow backing.

  • allow an extra hour for instruction
  • gussets require an extra 1/2 yard of fabric
  • you will be emailed a separate invoice for the extra time, which would be $75

Required materials and equipment:

  • Stitched and fully blocked canvas up to 12”x12” Please stitch two waste rows around the design in the background thread. These will be hidden inside the seam allowance, and serve to stabilize the needlepoint to fabric seam.
  • Sewing machine with 1) standard presser foot, 2) zipper foot 3) working knowledge of threading the machine, making a bobbin, backstitch to secure thread, changing stitch length and zigzag width, correcting tension for fabric weight.

***It is essential that you know how to operate your machine and it is in good working order. If you have difficulty you may sit in on the class but we will not be able to troubleshoot your machine.***

  • Spare sewing machine needles
  • Fabric scissors
  • Seam ripper
  • Hand sewing/embroidery needle
  • Tape measure
  • 1.5-2 yards of fabric. Quilting cotton, cotton velvet (no stretch), light upholstery fabric, dupioni silk are good candidates. If unsure, please email Julia (fairlywell@gmail.com.)

Provided materials:

  • Fusible interfacing
  • Cording for welt
  • Polyfill
  • Iron and board

*This class is transferable but non-refundable
